For the first time since its launch five years ago, The Hotelier Awards is hosting two separate competitions, with two separate events, one for Asia and one for the Greater China. Applications for the Greater China competition were accepted from mid-March and closed with over 10% increase in the number of entries from the previous year.

Simon Hansson Yu, Managing Director of The Hotelier Awards

Last night, an intimate cocktail reception was held at The Murray, Hong Kong, a new iconic luxury property, where the finalists for each of the 20 categories were revealed. These hoteliers were carefully selected by a panel of expert judges, who flew in from around the world to finalise their selection. The judging panel this year includes Julia Monk, Senior Vice President & Director of Hospitality Design at HOK, Leon Liang, Former Vice President of Alibaba - Fliggy, Dai Bin, President of China Tourism Academy and Director of China’s National Tourism Data Center, Jenny Soo, Director & Head of Workplace Experience Asia Pacific at JLL – Jones Lang LaSalle, and Sacha Stocklin, Managing Director of CieCAS.

The Hotelier Awards has become a benchmark for professional excellence in the Asia region, recognising and honouring individuals from hotel properties across Greater China and the rest of Asia.

New to the panel, Judge Leon Liang, expresses his thoughts, “I am honoured and excited to be part of the Judging Panel for the first time. This role brings me a feeling of familiarity as I started my career from hotel operation, but I've been interacting with the hospitality industry as an investor and internet player in recent years. Also I am looking forward to having an objective view on the experience and performance of hoteliers beyond the boundary of hotel operation.”

Sacha Stocklin, shares his views as a seasoned judge “People in the hospitality industry work extremely hard – it’s very physical as well as mental. They work long hours, during nights, weekends and also during public holidays. Often there is a lack of appreciation for their work which deeply saddens me. Being a judge and looking through the applications over the past 5 years is very special to me as I realise how unique each hotelier is. There are so many wonderful people out there in our industry who care for their guests, their associates, and also for the owners. I look at performance numbers, read stories and testimonials, and I learn to understand that hospitality people care about many things which are important to all of us: the environment, the people in need, managing operations efficiently, and taking good care of guests. All this is done through a great teamwork and spirit. I’m happy to be part of The Hotelier Awards so I can give them something they truly deserve – a simple thank you, and a bit of appreciation!”

All winners will be announced and celebrated during a lavish awards ceremony on the30th of October 2018 in Shanghai. The prestigious evening will be full of celebratory cheer, welcoming industry professionals from across Greater China to support their peers as the winners are revealed.
