It takes about 40 minutes by car from Lucerne to Engelberg, a famous skiing and summer resort. "Engelberg" is a German word, where "Engel" means angel and "Berg" means mountain, so it stands for "Mountain of Angels." Engelberg is world-renowned for its Mount Titlis, which attracts skiing enthusiasts from all over the world year-round. Stepping into this town feels like entering a fairytale world.
Mout Titlis
Titlis is the largest winter and summer holiday destination in central Switzerland. The attractive village with the famous monastery offers a wide variety of holiday activities for families, newcomers and those in the know.
Engelberg is located 25 km south of Lake Lucerne in a wide mountain valley at an altitude of around 1000 meters. At 3,239 meters, Titlis mountain with its glacier, and Hahnen mountain at 2,600 meters, are towering over the surrounding peaks. In the winter they make sure that there will be snow far into the spring season. One of the top 10 ski regions in Switzerland, Engelberg is also known for its diverse ski and freeride area. In the summer, on the other hand, it’s all about hiking, mountaineering, climbing, biking, and playing golf.
CabriO Aerial Cableway
Enjoying the wind in one’s face and the perfect view: first on the open funicular – rumbling and bumping just as it did 120 years ago – and then on the rooftop deck of the futuristic CabriO aerial cableway. Since 1893, the open wood coaches have been travelling sedately up towards Stanserhorn from Stans. Starting at the intermediate station, the aerial cableway with its open roof deck is one of the main attractions. It is a truly amazing feeling to stand up there on the roof of the double-deck panorama cabin and experience up close the passage between the supporting masts, just enjoying the headwind and the magnificent view – without any cables overhead.

Kempinski Palace Engelberg
Kempinski Palace Engelberg is set at the foot of Titlis Mountain, in the heart of the Swiss Alps, not far from Lucerne. After five full years of construction, the palatial building high up in the mountains was re-opened in 2021 and re-interpreted for the next generation as a unique hotel reminiscent of the Belle Epoque era. In harmony with nature, history and the modern era, the building is something truly special in its environment. As the first and only international five-star superior hotel in the largest winter and summer holiday destination of Central Switzerland, Kempinski Palace Engelberg is a retreat for all seasons.
This historic century-old building, completed in 1904 and originally known as Grandhotel Winterhaus, laid the cornerstone for the structure we see today. After extensive renovations and combined with the new five-story hotel, it now forms one perfect architectural unit. The hotel is easily reached year-round by train, car or via a 75-minute drive from Zurich Airport. The 129 rooms and suites feature state-of-the-art facilities and offer a unique view of the breathtaking mountain landscape.
Cattani Restaurant
The Cattani Restaurant combines modern charm with spectacular mountain views, featuring high ceilings, double-height windows, and marble walls. A large tailor-made and modern-looking chandelier reflects the shape of the Titlis, and a 1914 oil painting by Willy Amrhein add to its appeal. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu that blends French passion with Swiss influences, perfect for lovers of French cuisine. Guests may enjoy on terrace with the breathtaking mountain vistas during the summer season.
