Silks Place Tainan is the third Silks Place property in Taiwan. Located in Taiwan’s oldest cultural capital, this five-star hotel incorporates the city’s ancient and unique architecture, literature, art, and cuisine to offer a modern and authentic Taiwanese experience, beautifully upholding Silks’ spirit of “local, yet global.”

The hotel located in Tainan’s bustling West Central District., is close to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store and Xiaoximen commercial district. It has convenient transportation and is within walking distance to the Confucius Temple Cultural Park, Chihkan Tower and Old Five Channels Cultural Zone. Silks Place Tainan demonstrates respect for the historical significance of Tainan in both its location selection and design details. It seamlessly integrates Confucian philosophy, Tainan’s historical stature, and modern architectural style, using contemporary methods to highlight the continuity of history. Drawing inspiration from the “Academy style” and incorporating “Confucius Temple” installation art design, the hotel features eight symmetrical, simple window lattices with long proportions and two standing drums on both side of the 7-meter high lobby. These elements echo the cultural rituals and music passed down for centuries, offering a warm and subtle atmosphere to welcome guests.

The hotel has 14 floors with a total of 255 rooms, including 190 guest rooms and 65 suites. The design concept of the rooms continues throughout the entire hotel, finding new expressions within tradition. Handwoven rattan panels are used as bed headboards, while the simple background of white walls and grey bricks is enhanced with kiln-fired bricks, which connect colours and serve as decorative accents. The specially designed calligraphy brush pendant lights in the rooms further extend the academy concept.

In addition, breakfast, happy hour, and beverages are provided in the exclusive Silks Lounge. Business secretarial services and reserved meeting rooms are also available, offering exclusive privileges. This is one of the few business executive floor designs in Tainan hotels, showcasing a tranquil and elegant style with even more thoughtful and personalised service.

Rebecca Lee, General Manager of Silks Place Tainan

In the blink of an eye, Silks Place Tainan has been around for 10 years. Reflecting on the early days, Rebecca Lee, the hotel’s general manager, points out that the market was already saturated with several five-star hotels dividing the pie. To stand out and capture a share, they had to find a unique positioning. “From the very beginning, we were clear that we needed to take a different path. We couldn’t just focus on room size, buffets, or a beautiful pool. Those things weren’t distinctive enough and wouldn’t allow us to compete. To attract guests to choose Silks Place Tainan, we had to approach it from a story-driven marketing perspective.”

She believes that if Tainan isn’t doing well, neither will the hotel. Adhering to a brand philosophy of symbiosis and mutual prosperity with the local community, she has continuously strengthened the connection between Silks Place and Tainan over the years. “We treat Silks Place Tainan as a platform, collaborating with local artisans from various fields to launch limited-time events.” She mentions that there are many talented young people in the food industry who run small businesses but lack resources to be seen by a wider audience. Through crossovers, they not only achieve a win-win situation but also a 1+1 greater-than-2 effect, such as promoting Tainan oysters, Dongshan coffee, or even recreating traditional banquets. Through marketing that blends culture, food, craftsmanship, and art, and by telling stories, they highlight the uniqueness of Silks Place Tainan and help guests better understand Tainan.

In recent years, the hotel has also introduced “Walking Tours of the Old City,” offered every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with different themes such as architecture, culture and history. These tours are led by a dedicated guide who takes participants through the charming alleyways of Tainan, offering a glimpse into the diversity and allure of the old city. Hotel guests can register in advance and join the tours for free, while non-guests can also join for a fee.

Under Rebecca Lee’s leadership, Silks Place Tainan has achieved impressive results, even during the pandemic. She says, “Guests find Silks Place very fashionable and always refreshing, with new ideas that surprise them. For example, six years ago, we started hosting a Burger and Beer Festival, which has grown in scale every year. My personality is all about constantly challenging myself. There’s no such thing as ‘the best’—we’re always striving to be better. As a leader, my team might initially find it tough, but gradually, we all get to enjoy the results together.”

She sees the past decade as the first stage of the hotel’s journey. Entering the second stage, she reveals that they will focus more on promoting wellness travel and encouraging guests to prioritize their physical and mental well-being. At the same time, they will continue to help guests explore Tainan’s scenic side, experiencing the beauty of the city’s mountains and waters. Stay tuned to see what new initiatives Silks Place Tainan will roll out next.
