Recently, to further strengthen cultural and tourism cooperation and exchanges between China and Malaysia, and to foster mutual support, visitor exchange, and resource sharing between Nanchang, Jiangxi, and Kuala Lumpur and Malacca in Malaysia, a delegation led by Liu Fenfang, Deputy Director of the Nanchang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, and Tourism, visited Kuala Lumpur to conduct a series of cultural tourism promotion activities.
On October 30, the delegation visited the Malacca Tourism Bureau and held discussions with its officials. Deputy Director Liu Fenfang introduced the recent developments in Nanchang’s cultural and tourism sector. She highlighted that Nanchang, as the capital of Jiangxi Province, has a 2,200-year history and is a national historical and cultural city, a green city surrounded by mountains and water, and a vibrant urban hotspot. At the 2023 London World Travel Market, it was recognized as one of the “Top 10 Must-Visit Destinations in China.” Mr. Sha Ali, Director of the Malacca Tourism Promotion Bureau, warmly welcomed the Nanchang delegation, noting the deepening exchanges between China and Malaysia and the growing potential for cultural and tourism cooperation between Malacca and Nanchang. He expressed hope for stronger communication to write a new chapter in cultural tourism collaboration.
On November 1, the 2024 “Nanchang – The Heroic City of Southeast Asia” Cultural Tourism Promotion was grandly held at the Pullman Hotel Kuala Lumpur, attracting over 200 guests, including representatives from the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association, leading travel agencies, and media.
Deputy Director Liu Fenfang stated that on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, the timing was ideal for a Nanchang-Kuala Lumpur cultural tourism promotion event. She noted that, like Malaysia, Nanchang has a rich cultural heritage, exemplified by its “Four Icons”: the discovery of the Han Dynasty Haihunhou Kingdom ruins, the famous ancient prose of the “Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng,” the gunshots of the Nanchang Uprising, and the Xiaoping Trail commemorating Deng Xiaoping’s exploration of reform and opening up. With over 43% green coverage, Nanchang is hailed as the “Water City of China,” an “International Wetland City,” and a “National Forest City,” known for hosting major cultural, tourism, and sports events and being a popular hotspot. She warmly invited Malaysians to visit Jiangxi Nanchang, promising them a diverse cultural experience, vibrant tourism services, and the city’s lively atmosphere and distinctive cuisine.
Ms. Cynthia Tan, Deputy President of the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association, expressed that, as the capital of Jiangxi, Nanchang’s rich history of over 2,000 years and its abundant cultural and tourism resources are a treasure for every Malaysian Chinese. She emphasized that the association would fully support Nanchang’s tourism department in elevating bilateral tourism cooperation to new heights.
Representatives from the Haihunhou Kingdom Ruins Administration Bureau, Honggutan District, Donghu District, and Xihu District each presented the unique cultural and tourism highlights of their respective regions. Travel agencies in attendance expressed optimism about the potential for tourism cooperation with Nanchang and looked forward to enhanced communication and exchange to foster closer people-to-people connections.
