As the weather warms up, all of nature begins to wake up, making spring the most vibrant season of the year. Sushi Shinjiru, a restaurant that prides itself on quality ingredients, presents a series of seasonal fruits, vegetables, seafood, and meats with “dream” as its theme. They encourage diners to experience the taste of the four seasons of Japan with their taste buds.
Located in Desa Petaling, Sushi Shinjiru has only three private rooms and two main sushi bars, as well as a sake bar that offers top-notch Japanese sake, including the famous Juyondai. The perfect blend of its atmosphere and cuisine is the main reason why Sushi Shinjiru has become one of the favourite choices for Omakase enthusiasts within a year of its opening.
Last month, I was fortunate enough to be invited by one of the owners, Desmond Cheng Sui Yoke, to taste their dream-like spring menu. The menu highlights a variety of seasonal seafood, including delicate sea bream, and the most impressive dish, is undoubtedly the Bluefin tuna belly sushi with gold foil and gold powder.
Let’s have a look at what was included in the Iro Set Menu, which costs RM628. (Starter, Sashimi, Soup, Mini Bowl, Dessert)
Sashimi
A spring-themed presentation showcases the freshest seafood from the sea, displayed on a bed of crushed ice. Expertly prepared and lightly seared, the red snapper, scallops from Hokkaido, Bluefin tuna, and giant squid are served in their natural splendour.

a. Kinmedai to dark plum sauce
b. Kasugodai to ponzu oroshi with yuzu vinegar and grated radish

Mini Bowl
To ensure guests leave feeling fully satisfied, a small bowl of specialty rice is served. The fragrant white rice is mixed with Bluefin tuna paste and topped with salmon roe, red snapper, and golden eye snapper for a simple yet elegant dish.
