The Singapore Girl was born in the 70s, when Singapore Airlines was formed following the division of the former Malaysia – Singapore Airlines into two carriers — Malaysia Airline System and Singapore Airlines.
Dressed in the signature sarong kebaya, the Singapore Girl is a symbol of Asian hospitality recognised all over the world, remaining timeless across generations.
Designed by Parisian couturier Pierre Balmain in 1968, the sarong kebaya is made of the traditionally Asian batik and has become synonymous with the Singapore Girl. While the blue sarong kebaya remains the trademark of Singapore Airlines, there are four different colours. Each represents the designation of the Singapore Girl who wears it.
