Relaxing Walk in Refreshing Nature of Hiroshima Prefecture

There are two World Heritage sites in Hiroshima prefecture of Japan, the “Itsukushima Shrine” and the “Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum”. However, there are also many nature spots that are hidden gems in Hiroshima prefecture.

Sandan-kyo, a valley known for its clear stream and greenish valley scenery is one of the best hidden nature spots in Hiroshima. From the main entrance of Sandan-kyo to Lake Hijiriko, the total trekking course is about 16km long.

Visitors can choose to stroll along the trekking path and enjoy the scenery during the way, or ride on a sightseeing boat and admire the beauty of Sandan-kyo. Sightseeing boats operate between the end of April to the end of November every year (suspended during rainy days or bad weather). Visitors planning to ride this sightseeing boat are hence advised to check on the weather condition before visit.

During the walk, you can savour on one of the local products, momiji manju (autumn leaves shaped castella cake with red bean paste) for some energy charge too.

After a long day walk, visitors can also enjoy hot springs in the hot spring facilities nearby Sandan-kyo. Soak yourself into the relaxing and healing hot spring water to clean up your exhausted body and unleash the tiredness from you.
